Has the onslaught of a global pandemic made you question your work life over the last 12 months?
The enforced lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 have created a sea of change that has rocked the employment world with working from home, endless video conferencing and the boundaries blurred between your workspace and your home life.
If you are emerging from this wondering whether you do want to stay working for your current employer, is starting your own business something you would consider?
A year of lockdown has given many of us the chance to re-evaluate what is important in life. Never have the fundamental principles that govern working life been shaken so violently.
But what does starting a business in a post-Covid world look like?
For a start, conventional strategic thinking probably needs a re-think as we are emerging into a very different world. Instead, the way to approach anything is to consider a hybrid approach: one that combines traditional business strategy with innovation and the desire to do things differently.
The questions you need to ask are:
- How will my business make money?
- Who will be my clients?
- What will my clients’ behaviours look like after the pandemic and how will their behaviour affect my business model?
And behaviour is the key driver here as business behaviour has had to change fundamentally during the pandemic.
So, the things to consider are sustained behaviours, transformed behaviours and lapsed behaviours. Also, what are your clients’ motivators, pressures and alternatives and how can you help them navigate these?
